To find your Telinga equipment:

Your choice of handle must be compatible with the recorder you have, or plan to get.
Your choice of microphone is a matter of what kind of recordings you want and
what you are going to use your recordings for.

The choice of handle: It is the kind of microphone input connectors which is important. There are three types of common inputs:

1/ - 3,5 mm mini-connector providing Plug In Power.
2/ - balanced XLR-inputs without phantom power and
3/ - balanced XLR-inputs providing phantom power.

Telinga Plug In Power series: 3,5 mm minijack connectors only:
All modern “walkman-type” recorders (DAT’s, MD’s, HiMD’s and videos) with a 3,5 mm mini-connector also provide Plug In Power. Then you can use one of the three Telinga budget versions, PRO4PIP, PRO5PIP and the new Telinga LS-xx, made for Olympus LS-10 and 11 and Zoom H4N.
. PRO4 and 5 are mono models. No bass filter. The microphones cannot be used with any other Telinga handle. Mainly the self noise level is different: Telinga LS-xx and PRO5PIP at about 14dbA and PRO4PIP’s 21 db(A). Without the dish, of course.

Self powered Telinga equipment: Fit all three Telinga microphones.
3,5 mm minijack connectors:

The Telinga PRO7W handle is made for the same 3,5mm mini-connectors as above, but has a built in rechargeable battery which can supply more current consuming microphones like the Telinga Stereo DATmic. This internal battery also drives a 200 Ohms output and a steep “traffic noise” filter.
You can use all 3 Telinga microphones to the PRO7W handle - the Stereo DATmic, the Classic and the Twin Science. See below.
The PRO7W is made for all small size MD’s, HiMD’s and Dat’s with 3,5 mini-jack connector. Edirol R1 is a modern example of a flash-card recorder with the same 3,5 mm connector.

Balanced XLR inputs with 48v phantom power:
The PRO7: For balanced input with phantom power: Common examples of recorders with balanced inputs and phantom power is the Tascam DAP1 and the Marantz PMD series etc. Some video cameras also have such inputs while some other cameras need a special audio box with XLR inputs, fastened to the back of the camera.
If you have, or plan to get, a recorder or video with balanced inputs, providing phantom power - then your natural choice of Telinga handle is the PRO6. Data and electronics is the same as PRO7W.
A special feature is that you can run the PRO7 handle also with a 3,5 mm mini-jack connector, providing you have a special Telinga power box to it. This is to allow a small size MD or HiMD to serve as a back-up machine, if the professional recorder stops working.

The Microphones:

PRO4PIP has it’s built in microphone, like the PRO5PIP.

For the PRO7W,PRO7 handle you can choose between 3 Telinga microphones - mono and stereo:

Mono: Twin Science:
A microphone with two mono capsules, one omni facing outwards of the dish and a directional microphone facing inwards. The two microphones will record separately to respective stereo track:
The “Omni” track: Very low handling noise and wind noise.
The “Directional” track: Better frequency response.

Mono: Classic:
A microphone with the same look as Twin Science, but made the “classical” way, with an omni directional microphone facing inwards into the dish. The microphone is connected to both stereo channels.

Stereo: The Telinga Stereo DATmic. This is a unique design which provides both a mono signal of the focused sound and a stereo picture of the ambience.

The Universal:
This is a Telinga handle / dish for the ones who already have a microphone like the Sennheiser ME62 or MKH20. It is a dish, a handle and a balanced cable only. No electronics.
